The PUNCH: The Lagos State Government has directed all schools in the state to allow the use of hijab by female students or pupils who desire to. The directive was contained in a circular dated December 5, 2022, and signed by the state Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, copied to relevant stakeholders which included the Deputy Governor, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, the Chief Judge of the state, Secretary to the State Government, Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries.
The Guardian: The World Bank has warned that Nigeria’s debt service cost to revenue ratio could hit 160 per cent in five years, except broad-based reforms are implemented to ‘unfreeze’ the fiscal space. In a separate report, the global bank also said poorest countries that are eligible to borrow from the International Development Association (IDA) now spend over a 10th of their export revenues to service their long-term public and publicly guaranteed external debts – the highest proportion since 2000.
This Day: In an apparent move to tackle vote buying as the 2023 general elections draw closer, and control the amount of cash in circulation, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday introduced new cash withdrawal limits for banks and other financial institutions. The new policy followed its recent currency redesign project in which it had expressed concerns over the high volume of cash outside the banking system.
The Nation: All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential standard bearer Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday described himself as the candidate to beat in next year’s election. He said there was no contender for the highest office who can match his track record.
Daily Trust: The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has pegged maximum over the counter (OTC) cash withdrawal per week for individuals at N100,000 and N500,000 for corporate organisations. The apex bank also limited individual Point of Service (POS) to N20,000 per day. This is is contained in a circular by the CBN and addressed to all Deposit Money Banks (DMBS) and Other Financial Institutions (Payment Service Banks (PSBs). Primary Mortqaqe
