Aisha Buhari: Why Police Dropped Charges Against Aminu – Lawyer

The First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari on Friday withdrew her case against Aminu Adamu Mohammed, a final year student of Jigawa state Federal University, Dutse.

The prosecution counsel, Fidelis Ogbobe, said the First Lady had decided to withdraw the case due to the intervention of well-meaning Nigerians.

Following the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari's wife to drop the charges against Aminu, the police have also dropped the charges against the young man.

The decision of the security agency is coming days after the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) threatened to embark on a nationwide protest to demand Aminu's unconditional release.

The President of NANS, Usman Barambu in a statement released on Thursday said the protest would be held on Monday.

Barambu said, “We have consulted and consolidated and neither yielded desirable results in seeking the freedom of Aminu Adamu Muhammed, student of the Federal University Dutse, hence the protest shall commence as follows: Monday, 5 December 2022, Nationwide.”

He further stated that the protest would continue until Aminu is released from detention.

The lawyer to the student, Festus Agu disclosed that the suit filed against his client has been discontinued.

The 400-level student had been of defamation, cyberstalking and conspiracy.

Agu who confirmed the development in a chat with Premium Times said the suit was withdrawn due to NANS' threat to protest against Aminu's continued detention.
