Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has reportedly revoked the Certificate of Occupancy of land allocated to the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council in the state, Senator Lee Maeba.
Naija News gathered that the revoked plot of land is located at the Golf Course Layout, Old GRA in Port Harcourt, the state capital. In a letter addressed to Maeba on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, the state government said the land allocation has been canceled with immediate effect. The letter was signed by the acting Director, Head of Department, Acquisition, Valuation, and Compensation, Ministry of Lands and Survey, Ochiagha Onyebuchi. The letter was titled “Re: Allocation of Plot 20A Golf Course Layout, Old GRA Port Harcourt.” It read, “I am directed to inform you that your allocation at Plot 20A Golf Course Layout, old GRA, Port Harcourt, has been cancelled as shown on the attached Rivers State Official Gazette No. 22 Vol. 58, dated September 20, 2022. “Please accept the warm regards of the Permanent Secretary.” The former lawmaker who represented the Rivers South-East District in the National Assembly is a staunch supporter of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Maeba, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Austin Opara, Derognised governor of the state, Sir Celestine Omehia, and a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinyere Igwe, are at war with the Wike. It is understood that the PDP chieftains fell out of favour with the governor after they visited Atiku when he emerged as the party's flagbearer.Senator Maeba Speaks
Reacting to the revocation, Maeba slammed Wike for withdrawing the land allocated to him six months later with a Certificate of Occupancy duly signed by the governor. In a chat with the Punch, the former lawmaker said he was surprised at the development, saying that the action was vindictive and callous. “How can a governor grant a certificate of occupancy and withdraw it six months later?” he queried. This article was originally published on Naija News
