Northerners have been admonished to shun any call to not vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
The North West Presidential Campaign Council gave the admonition on Sunday when it observed that some elders from the region are advising the citizens against voting for the former Governor of Lagos State for the nation's number one political position.
Naija News reports that APC's Muslim-Muslim ticket has suffered a series of controversies since Tinubu announced former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as his running mate in the 2023 polls.
However, while acrimony has continued even within the party over the single-faith ticket, the party’s campaign council said, “The Tinubu/Shettima joint presidential ticket is merely coincidental and not out of any desire to suppress a particular set of people.”
On Sunday, November 27, the spokesman of the council, Muhammad Shehu Molash, said Tinubu emerged as one of the believers of the Nigerian project, as reflected by his constant support for the presidential candidates of northern extraction.
His statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to a widely circulated voice note of a supposedly northern elder, Alh Sani Zangon Daura, calling on Northerners to reject the presidential candidates of southern Nigeria’s extraction.
“The North West APC Presidential Campaign Council is therefore calling on Northerners to disregard the antics of these elders, who hide behind a bogus northern agenda, to promote their individual and self-serving interests.”
Tinubu Lacks Competence, Capacity To Lead Nigeria – PDP Campaign Organisation
Meanwhile, the Presidential Campaign Organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the presidential candidate of the APC, Tinubu lacks the capacity and competence to lead the country in 2023.
Naija News reports that the spokesperson of the campaign, Kola Ologbodiyan, said this on Sunday while reacting to the comments made by Tinubu on the PDP flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, over the weekend.
Recall that Tinubu, during a visit to the Pere of the Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM Oboro Gbaraun II, on Friday, had asked the monarch to appeal to Atiku to stop running for the presidency.
Also speaking at a rally at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, on Saturday, Tinubu urged Nigerians to retire Atiku permanently in 2023 because he and the PDP had nothing to offer Nigerians after their 16 years in power.
You’re Desperate To Divert Attention
Reacting to the comments in an interview with Vanguard on Sunday, Ologbodiyan said Tinubu is desperate to divert attention from the seven disastrous years of the ruling party by attacking the PDP and Atiku.
He said Tinubu was obviously embarrassed by the disastrous outing of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration over the past seven years and has nothing to campaign with.
Ologbodiyan said Nigerians cannot wait to chase the APC out of power and return the PDP to Aso Rock to secure the future of generations yet unborn.
