1. US Govt Raises Fresh Alarm Over Possible Terrorist Attack In Abuja

The United States of America has issued a fresh warning about the possibility of a terrorist attack in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Naija News reports the advisory was issued in a statement on Sunday by the US Embassy in Abuja. As a result of the development, the Embassy announced that it would offer reduced services until further notice and urged American citizens to avoid non-essential movements. The statement added that possible targets by the terrorists may include government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities, and international organizations. The US Embassy went further to warn American citizens to avoid all non-essential travel or movement, stay alert, avoid crowds, review their personal security plans and keep their cell phones charged in case of emergency.

2. Thugs Attack Jandor’s Campaign Team In Badagry, Journalists Injured

Suspected thugs on Sunday attacked the campaign team of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor in Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State. Naija News learnt that Jandor’s team was attacked while returning from visitation to Ikoga Junction in the Badagry Local Government area. The Governorship candidate of the PDP visited the local government to solicit the support of people in the community ahead of the 2023 races. It was reported that several members of Jandor’s team sustain injuries, including journalists with one of them reportedly in critical condition. The development was confirmed by the spokesperson for JandorFunke 2023 Campaign Council, Hakeem Amode. According to Amode, the team members that sustained injuries are being treated at an undisclosed hospital. He claimed that the thugs that attacked the campaign trail were sponsored by the ruling party.

3. Nnamdi Kanu: We Are Ready To Meet At The Supreme Court, IPOB Tells FG

As part of efforts by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to protest the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, the group says it is ready to face the Federal Government at the Supreme Court on Monday, October 24, 2022. The group, which is advocating that the government should obey the judgment of the Court of Appeal of October 13, 2022, said no amount of threat or intimidation by the government would make it retreat from the Biafra Restoration project. Naija News gathered that the group also called on International Communities and other civilized countries to caution the Nigerian Government and its security agents to leave Biafraland alone. In a statement signed by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB warned the security agencies to discontinue its “evil agenda” of road and food blockade sabotage.

4. APC’s Tinubu Identifies His Two Major Contenders In 2023 Presidential Race

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has identified only two candidates as his major contenders in the 2023 presidential race. Naija News reports that after the deregistration of some political parties months ago, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), announced a total of 18 parties for the February 2023 election, with each fielding a candidate for the presidential seat. However, Tinubu on Sunday through his Vice Presidential running mate, Kashim Shettima, acknowledged having only two contenders in the presidential race. Though the ruling party’s candidate did not directly mention the names of the major contenders, his comments were a reference to recent actions and comments by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his counterpart in the Labour Party, Peter Obi. Shettima said of the PDP candidate that “He (Tinubu) will not divide 50% of his time in Dubai and 50% in Nigeria.”

5. 2023: PDP, Atiku Will Defeat Peter Obi In Anambra – Okowa

Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Sunday, boasted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will sweep the polls in Anambra State in the coming 2023 general elections, Naija News reports. Okowa who is a running mate to PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said the nation’s leading opposition party has won polls in a landslide in the state before and that the coming election will not be an exception. Recall that Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, hails from Anambra State and the state is currently headed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) led by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo. However, despite the opposition, Okowa said PDP will win over other parties in the state. Okowa who was represented in Onitsha for the 20th Ofala festival of the traditional ruler of the ancient Kingdom, Obi Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, by the leader of the Presidential campaign council in Anambra State, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, told journalists that “PDP is fully prepared for the campaign.

6. Scores Killed As Security Operatives Raid ’IPOB Camps’ In Ebonyi

An unspecified number of criminals alleged to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been killed in Ebonyi State by a joint security operative consisting of the Nigerian Army, Department of State Security (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force. Reports obtained by Naija News on Sunday revealed that the alleged criminals were neutralized in recent raids by the security operatives who were going about combing some criminal hideouts in the state. Confirming the development in a statement issued today, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chris Anyanwu, revealed that three IPOB suspects in the command’s custody leaked some information that aided the success of the recent raids. According to the police spokesman, the operation, spearheaded by the Command’s Tactical teams and assisted by the Military and DSS in the State, was prompted by the reliable evidence gotten from the interrogation of Nnamdi Ngwuta Obaji aka State Commander No. 3 and another operative of the outlawed group, Felix Ogudu who were earlier arrested.

Naija News reports that there are claims that the former Governor of Lagos State is sick and has been traveling to London in the United Kingdom to see his doctors. Speaking at a dinner organized in his honour by the Kano Business Community on Saturday, Tinubu said he is fit and agile to lead the most populous country in Africa. The former governor maintained that he is strong, hale, and hearty, stressing that it often baffles him when the opposition parties continue to say that he is sick. Tinubu asserted that he is running for the presidency which is a knowledge-driven job and not a relay race or World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) wrestling.

8. I Would Not Be The Presidential Candidate Without APC Govs – Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has acknowledged the influence of the governors elected on the party’s platform. Tinubu, while speaking during series of meetings with Ullamas and some pastors on Sunday, said that without the party governors, he would not have become the APC flag bearer. The former Lagos State Governor opined that the dedication of the APC stalwarts has given him more courage and determination in gunning for the exalted seat. He said, “You firmly stood by me at the hours of needs during the Primary Contests of our Party and that made me the Candidate of the APC and that is a great source of pride because others are still battling their governors.” Speaking further, Tinubu said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that during their 16 years at the helms of power spent $16 billion on power, stressing that the nation is still facing frequent outages coupled with transmission failures. He subsequently urged the people not to vote for a candidate who spends 50% of his time in Dubai.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George has berated the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, for refusing to resign from his position despite the rift in the party. Naija News recalls that Governor Nyesom Wike of River state and his Abia, Oyo, Enugu, and Benue states counterparts, Okezie Ikpeazu, Seyi Makinde, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Samuel Ortom, respectively, insisted that Ayu must resign from office over the alleged imbalance in the PDP leadership. The governors insisted Ayu had earlier promised to resign from his position if the presidential candidate emerges from the North. The party consequently set up a BoT Reconciliation Committee headed by former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, to wade into the crisis between Wike and Ayu. With Ayu showing no intent to honour his pledge, the Adolphus Wabara-led committee submitted a number of recommendations, one of which was that Ayu should commit to leaving his position after the 2023 elections. Sharing his thoughts on the situation in an interview with Sunday Punch, George opined that Ayu should keep to his promise. He wondered why the National Chairman was so bent on keeping his position adding that if he should die the PDP would still continue with its affairs.

10. Six Killed As ISWAP Invades Boko Haram Stronghold

Fighters of the Islamic State In West Africa Province (ISWAP) has at the weekend attacked the enclaves of the Boko Haram, during which six of them were reportedly killed. Naija News reports that the attack is a continuation of their sustained inter-rivalry clash following the decision of the ISIS backed ISWAP faction to pull out of Boko Haram. It was gathered that ISWAP had in a silent operation stormed the home of Boko Haram insurgents in Gajibo, a town 95km northeast of Maiduguri, Borno state capital, and slaughtered six whom they declared as “infidels”. An Intelligence source told Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency expert and Security Analyst in Lake Chad, that the attackers also recovered five AK 47 riffles from the Boko Haram terrorists. ISWAP had carried out many successful attacks against Boko Haram terrorists in its sustained feuds, which caused the group a huge casualty and loss of war assets. The worsening inter-rivalry clashes, between jihadist groups, may lead them to irreversible self-destruction as the revolting ISWAP had vowed to battle more with members of its former main body than even with the Nigerian troops.
