The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has appealed to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II to pray for peaceful election and political transition in the 2023 general election.
The presidential candidate made the submission when he led his running mate and Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa; Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo, alongside other governors and leaders of the PDP, on a courtesy visit to the monarch. [caption id="attachment_584208" align="alignnone" width="2560"] Oba of Benin, Atiku, Ayu, Obaseki and Shaibu[/caption] Other leaders of the PDP on the entourage include Chairman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council and Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Dr. Udom Emmanuel, Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal; Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu; National Chairman of the PDP Iyorchia Ayu; former National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus; former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, and former Senator representing Edo South, Ehigie Ozamere, among others. Atiku said traditional rulers such as the Oba of Benin have critical roles to play in fostering peace and stability as the country prepares for the 2023 elections. He said: “We thank you for granting us an audience and also seek your prayers for the peaceful transition in our country. As one of the foremost fathers in this country, you have a lot to contribute to a very smooth transition. This is because you can ensure peaceful conduct of all political activities in the state.” On his part, Oba Ewuare II assured Atiku of his continual prayers for the success of his presidential bid. He added that, “Here is home for you. We have been following your statements and assurances and pray to Almighty God and our ancestors that you have good health and wisdom to bring it to fruition should you be the chosen one to lead this country.
