1. FG Drags ASUU To Court Over Lingering Strike

The Federal Government has resolved to take the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the lingering strike. Naija News reports that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, made this known in an official letter dated September 8 and addressed to the Chief Registrar of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Abuja. According to the letter, Ngige stated that the government took ASUU to court because talks between both parties have collapsed. The minister asked the court to give an accelerated hearing to the case in order to bring the issue of the strike to an end. The letter was titled: ”Forwarding of a referral instrument in the trade dispute between federal government/federal ministry of education and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)”

2. Kwankwaso Speaks On Stepping Down For Atiku, Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the New Nigerians Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Sunday spoke on stepping down for another presidential candidate. Kwankwaso debunked the report that he is planning to back other presidential candidates in the 2023 race. The former governor of Kano State dispelled this in a statement released by the spokesman of his presidential campaign organisation, Ladipo Johnson. There had been speculations online that Kwankwaso would step down for either the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar or the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu. Johnson in a statement made available to newsmen said the NNPP Presidential candidate is in the race to win.

3. Oba Of Benin Meets Ooni Of Ife, Emir Of Kano Behind Closed-door

The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, has met with His Imperial Majesty, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero. Naija News reports that the private meeting was held on Saturday at the palace of the Oba of Benin, Benin City, the Edo state capital. Speaking after the meeting, Oba Ewuare applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for preserving the traditional institution which has remained intact. He recalled failed attempts by cultural imperialists to disrupt the tradition in Africa; including Benin Kingdom where the invaders looted Benin Bronzes over a Century ago The Royal father however expressed happiness that some of the artefacts taken away by the invaders at the time have started returning to their original abode.

4. 2023: It Will Be More Worrisome To Allow APC Remain In Office – Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has suggested why Nigerians should vote against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections. Atiku in a statement on Sunday said it would be worrisome to allow the APC to remain in office beyond May 29, 2023. According to the former Vice President, the 2023 poll is an opportunity for Nigerians to choose between certainty and a promise of failures, a choice between freedom and doom. He added that though it won’t be an easy task, it is time efforts must be made to set Nigeria free from socio-economic hardship.

5. Reveal Person Backing Atiku In Presidency, Tinubu Group Tells Wike

The Tinubu-Shettima Ambassadors (TSA) has asked Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to reveal the name of the presidential aide backing the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar. Naija News recalls that Wike had alleged that Atiku and the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, are arrogant because someone in the presidency is backing them. Speaking last Thursday in Port Harcourt, Wike said Ayu refused to honour his promise to resign because he was banking on the presidential backing. The Rivers governor, however, promised to reveal the identity of the person in the Presidency backing Atiku and Ayu. Speaking with reporters on Sunday, the Director General of TSA, Oyelude Oladele, asked Wike to expose the mole in the presidency supporting both Atiku and Ayu. Oladele said it was unfortunate that a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the presidency could be backing Atiku without considering the interest of the ruling party.

6. FG Grants 108 Lebanese, 14 Britons, Others Nigerian Citizenship

The Muhammadu Buhari-led Government has granted Nigerian citizenship to 286 foreign nationals from 49 countries. Naija News reports that the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, made this known in an advertorial titled “Ministry of Interior Announcement.” The document disclosed that the conferment of citizenship on the awardees was done by naturalisation and registration, as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari. It stated that 208 of the beneficiaries would be awarded citizenship by naturalisation, while 78 of them would receive citizenship by registration, according to The Punch. According to the document, a ceremony to confer the award on the recipients will be presided over by Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, September 15, 2022. It said the awardees are expected to appear in person at the appropriate ministry to begin proper documentation, starting from Monday, September 12, 2022.

7. Tukur Mamu: ‘Leave Us Alone’ – DSS Warns Nigerians Against Unguarded Utterances

The Department of State Services on Sunday warned Nigerians over making unguarded comments on its arrest of the bandit terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu. In a statement by its spokesperson, Peter Afunaya, the DSS asked the public to leave the agency alone and allow it to concentrate on the investigations. According to the agency, investigations into Tukur Mamu’s activities have been “mindboggling.” The DSS said, “The DSS has followed, with keen observation, overzealous comments by sections of the public in view of issues relating to the arrest and investigation of Tukur Mamu.” “The Service wishes to state that it is not distracted with some of the skewed narratives pervading the media space. Instead, it requests to be left alone to concentrate on the ongoing investigations, the outcomes of which have remained mindboggling. “Meanwhile, the Service will cease further comments on the subject matter since the court will determine its course. Consequently, the public is hereby enjoined to desist from making unguarded utterances and await the court proceedings.”

8. 98 Chibok Girls Still In Boko Haram Captivity – Military

The Nigerian Military has disclosed that ninety-eight students of Government Girls’ Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State are still in Boko Haram captivity. The head of the Intelligence Unit of the Joint Military Taskforce in the North East Operation Hadinkai, Colonel Obinna Ezuipke, made this known in a chat with reporters on Saturday in Maiduguri. Recall that Boko Harm terrorists on April 14, 2014, stormed the school in Chibok and kidnapped 276 students during the attack, which led to an outrage in the country. According to Ezuipke, a total of 178 girls are out of captivity in the last eight years, stressing that 57 girls escaped in 2014 while 107 girls were released by the insurgents in 2018. Speaking on the activities of the troops of Operation Hadinkai in August 2022, Ezuipke disclosed that a total of 43 terrorists were neutralized, while 24 others were arrested by the troops in August alone.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, and the National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu have destroyed their party’s image because of their personal interest. Naija News reports that the PDP has had a tradition of the party’s chairman coming from the South if the Presidential candidate of the party is from the North and vice versa. This is the reason Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike is demanding that Ayu steps down because the party presidential candidate is from the north. In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, Okechukwu stated that the unholy alliance between Atiku and Ayu has painted the opposition party in an opaque colour of share the money, stomach infrastructure and rent seekers. He insisted that Ayu’s refusal to honor the gentleman agreement by stepping down from his position to maintain the balance between north and south is simply to willfully coronate Atiku, as Nigeria’s 2023 version of Raila Odinga.

10. 2023: Yoruba Nation Agitation Will Continue Even If Tinubu Succeeds Buhari – Akintoye

The leader of Ilana Omo Oodua, Professor Banji Akintoye, has said the agitation for the actualisation of Yoruba Nation would continue even if the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, becomes Nigeria’s next President. In an interview with Vanguard, Akintoye said the self-determination group will not abandon its struggle for the Yoruba Nation because of the former Governor of Lagos State. He also claimed that the Yoruba may pull out of Nigeria before the 2023 general elections, saying that the majority of the people from the South West are tired of the country.
