A doctor accused of allegedly raping a sedated mum during a C-section operation has been seized by police.
Anaesthesiologist Giovanni Quintella Bezerra was arrested at the Women's Hospital in Sao Joao de Meriti, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, in the early hours of Monday.
Staff at the hospital are said to have secretly filmed him allegedly sexually assaulting a patient whose C-section surgery he was participating in.
Medical colleagues claim to have been suspicious of the doctor's behaviour, especially the high doses of sedatives he allegedly gave pregnant women.
They decided to change the room one delivery was due to take place in at the last minute in a bid to secretly film him on a hidden mobile phone.
The medic had allegedly already participated in two surgeries in a room where filming was impossible.
But during the third surgery in the new room, they allegedly caught him in the act and called the police.
He remained silent during his arrest but is facing rape charges.
The Regional Council of Medicine of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Cremerj) has launched an internal inquiry and opened proceedings to expel the medic on Monday.
Cremerj said the hospital is providing support to the alleged victim and her family.
It added: "This behaviour, in addition to deserving our repudiation, constitutes a crime, which must be punished in accordance with the legislation in force."
The police are trying to track down other potential victims of the anaesthesiologist including, the Sun reports, the first two patients.
